Shashi Tharoor Leads Delegation In Strategic US Talks

A high-level Indian parliamentary delegation, led by senior Congress MP Dr Shashi Tharoor, visited Washington DC as part of a diplomatic initiative to brief American leaders on the recent Pahalgam terror attack and India’s subsequent ‘Operation Sindoor’.

The delegation met several top US officials, including Vice President JD Vance and Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau.

The visit began with a significant engagement between the Indian delegation and US Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau.

The Indian Embassy shared on social media platform X that the meeting was ‘warm and candid’, with a detailed briefing provided on the Pahalgam attack and India’s firm counter-response under ‘Operation Sindoor’.

The Indian side highlighted the cross-border origins of the violence and reaffirmed the country’s unwavering resolve to combat terrorism.

Support From US Lawmakers

The delegation also met Senator Chris Van Hollen, a key member of the US Senate Foreign Relations Committee.

In their exchange, Indian MPs emphasised the repeated threats India faces from cross-border terrorism and conveyed the necessity of strong international partnerships.

Senator Van Hollen reportedly expressed sympathy for the victims and support for India’s right to defend itself.

In addition to government officials, the Indian delegation also interacted with members of the US Congress, think tank representatives, and media personnel during a reception hosted by the Indian Ambassador to the United States.

These conversations aimed at strengthening bipartisan understanding and garnering support for enhanced Indo-US security collaboration.

One of the most notable interactions took place with US Vice President JD Vance.

The Indian Embassy described the meeting as ‘excellent’, highlighting discussions around ‘Operation Sindoor’, regional security threats, and future cooperation in the counter-terrorism domain.

Further, the meeting underscored the importance of strategic trust between the two democracies in an increasingly volatile region.

The visit is seen as part of India’s broader diplomatic outreach to build consensus in Washington on regional security and anti-terrorism cooperation.

By briefing American lawmakers on the ground reality in Jammu and Kashmir and outlining India’s decisive steps through ‘Operation Sindoor’, the delegation aimed to reinforce India’s role as a key partner in upholding regional and global stability.

As cross-border threats persist, both nations reiterated their shared commitment to combating terrorism and safeguarding democratic values through deeper strategic engagement.
