China Executes Teacher Who Posioned 24 Kindergarten Students’ Food, 1 Died Due To Multiple Organ Failure

According to state media on Friday, a former kindergarten teacher who poisoned 24 children’s porridge with sodium nitrite four years ago and killed one child was executed in China this week.

The Jiaozuo City Intermediate People’s Court in Jiaozuo, Henan Province, first delivered the punishment in September 2020. Wang Yun, 39, appealed the sentence, but was unsuccessful.
According to a court statement, Wang was given the death penalty on Thursday after the same court confirmed her identity, brought her to the execution site, and carried out the sentence.

Wang bought sodium nitrate after she was had fight with a fellow teacher in March 2019. According to the court’s ruling, she added part of the chemical substance in kids’ “eight treasures porridge” the following morning at the kindergarten, according to state media.

A sweet rice-based porridge known as “Eight Treasures Porridge” is particularly popular in China.

One of the kids passed away in January 2020 due to multiple organ failure after her was poisoned. Twelve more people were treated for minor wounds, according to state media.

Wang’s death and other high-profile incidents of violence or death in Chinese kindergartens over the past few years are numerous.

Amnesty International, a human rights NGO, believes that China executes thousands of people every year, significantly more than any other nation.
