Monkey Mischief at Vrindavan Temple, Strikes Unusual Deal for Return

In Indian cities like Mathura and Vrindavan, the mischievous behavior of monkeys has become a common issue, often leading to incidents where personal belongings are snatched, and negotiations ensue for their return. A recent amusing episode occurred in Vrindavan at Sri Rangnath Ji Mandir on January 6, where a monkey stole a man’s iPhone, sparking a unique negotiation process.

The incident, captured in a video shared on Instagram by user Vikas, unfolds with two monkeys perched atop a structure, one of them holding the man’s valuable iPhone. On the ground, a crowd gathers, attempting to retrieve the phone. The negotiators, undeterred by the monkey’s unexpected thievery, decide to strike a deal by offering a pack of Frooti to the primate. Seizing the opportunity, the monkey quickly drops the iPhone in exchange for the refreshing drink. A vigilant person on the ground successfully catches the falling phone.

Vikas shared the video on Instagram with a caption that humorously reads, ‘Vrindavan’s Monkeys. iPhone sold in one Frooti.’ The video has since become a source of amusement online, with many highlighting the clever tactics employed by the monkeys. Some commented on the monkeys’ intelligence, noting their ability to barter stolen items for food.

Online reactions varied, with users finding humor in the situation. Some drew parallels to a barter system, while others marveled at the monkeys’ innovative methods to secure food. Comments like “Monkeys have new ideas on how to get food” and ”Vrindavan monkeys are the best traders” reflected the lighthearted response to the video. The monkeys were playfully referred to as ”schemers” and ”professionals” by amused netizens.

This incident echoes a trend seen in other parts of the world, such as a similar occurrence in Bali, where a monkey returned a woman’s phone after she offered it two fruits. The interactions between humans and mischievous monkeys continue to captivate online audiences with their unexpected and humorous twists.
