Vidhi Popley and Hridesh Sainani marked their union in a unique fashion, exchanging vows aboard a transformed Boeing 747, soaring above the skies in an extraordinary celebration. The extravagant event, chronicled by Dubai-based Brew News, hosted over 300 guests who traveled from Dubai to Oman for the occasion.
Hridesh Sainani made a grand entrance at the airport’s tarmac in a red Ferrari, leading the ‘baraat’ onto the flight that departed from the Jetex Dubai private terminal, eventually landing in Oman. During the three-hour flight, attendees were treated to a lavish seven-star meal as the Boeing 747’s seats were adorned with the wedding’s theme, complemented by projectors in each section for guests to witness the ceremony.
This “wedding in the sky” marked a sequel in the Popley family’s history, nearly three decades after Vidhi’s father, Dilip Popley, a prominent UAE businessman, married Sunita in 1994 aboard an Air India Airbus A310—the first wedding ceremony on a flight.
Reflecting on this unique tradition, Dilip Popley shared, “My marriage in the air was my dad’s idea, which started from a lighter note. It was my dad’s dream, who wanted to get his son married in the air. We met the chairman of Air India and had a wedding in the sky in 1994. Now I am carrying his dream to another level.

Looking ahead, he expressed hopes for future innovations, saying, “I am hoping, for my son’s marriage, technology will allow us to do something bigger, such as marriage in space.”
The 1994 aerial wedding, known as “Hawai Bandhan” or “Wedding In The Air,” featured an Air India Airbus A310 flying from Mumbai to Ahmedabad. Renowned chef Sanjeev Kapoor curated the meal for this grand event. The Popley Group, a distinguished name in luxury jewelry founded in 1927, continues to be a prominent player with stores in Dubai and Mumbai.
