Prime Minister Narendra Modi will virtually inaugurate Pune Metro Line-3, connecting Maan-Hinjawadi with Shivajinagar, on November 4. The ceremony will begin at 10.30 am at the Badminton Hall of the Shree Shiv Chhatrapati Sports Complex in Mhalunge-Balewadi.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and Sunetra Ajit Pawar will attend as chief guests. Passenger services will begin at 6 am on the same day.
Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority Commissioner Dr Abhijit Chaudhari said on Saturday that the 23.203-km corridor, popularly called the Puneri Metro and Pink Line, will connect Maan with Shivajinagar through Rajiv Gandhi Infotech Park in Hinjawadi.
The project carries an estimated cost of ₹8,313 crore, including land acquisition and utility shifting. Pune IT City Metro Rail Limited is implementing it under a Design, Build, Finance, Operate and Transfer public-private partnership model.
Of the corridor’s 23 stations, 17 will open initially. Work on two more stations is expected to finish by November-end, while authorities plan to commission the remaining four by January 2027.
Safety, Connectivity and Passenger Facilities
The Research Designs and Standards Organisation inspected the corridor. The Commissioner of Metro Railway Safety granted approvals on July 23 and September 23, 2026. Maharashtra State Security Corporation has deployed 350 personnel for station security.
Authorities are arranging dedicated access points for buses, rickshaws, app-based taxis and e-bikes. Parking, cycle tracks, footpaths, pedestrian crossings and foot overbridges will support safer travel.
The project has installed 7.60 MW of solar capacity, expected to meet nearly 30 per cent of its electricity needs. Around 100 women train pilots will operate the services, while women will comprise nearly half the station workforce.
Chaudhari said the corridor could ease congestion across Hinjawadi, Aundh, Baner, Balewadi and Shivajinagar. Officials estimate daily ridership at 2–2.5 lakh passengers.
