Coimbatore is under an extensive security cover ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit on Wednesday for the South India Organic Farmers’ Summit.
Over 3,000 police personnel ensure smooth conduct and public safety across the city.
The three-day summit will begin at the Codissia Trade Fair Complex on Wednesday.
The Prime Minister will inaugurate the event, which will continue until November 21.
The summit attracts more than 50,000 organic farmers from southern states.
During the ceremony, the Prime Minister will felicitate 18 leading organic farmers for their contribution to sustainable agriculture.
City braces for summit
As per the official programme, the Prime Minister will arrive at Coimbatore International Airport at 1.25 PM from Puttaparthi, Andhra Pradesh.
BJP leaders and party cadres are preparing to welcome him at the airport.
From there, he will travel by road to the Codissia arena and inaugurate the summit at 1.40 PM.
He is scheduled to depart the venue at 3.15 PM and board a return flight to New Delhi at 3.30 PM.
The city administration has issued detailed traffic and security advisories.
The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) has taken charge of the Codissia complex.
Parking at Coimbatore airport remains suspended from Tuesday until 6 PM on Wednesday. Vehicle entry, including taxis, will be completely restricted between noon and 3 PM.
Passengers have been advised to reach the airport before noon or walk from Chitra Junction to the terminal. The GD Naidu flyover will remain closed during the Prime Minister’s movement.
Heavy vehicles are prohibited from entering the city between 8 AM and 8 PM. Traffic diversions are in effect along Avinashi Road. Vehicles from Salem, Erode, and Tiruppur must use alternate routes via Ondipudur and Singanallur.
Authorities tightened drone restrictions across multiple areas, including Singanallur, Chinniyampalayam, SIHS Colony, Kalapatti, Nehru Nagar, Peelamedu, and Race Course.
These zones will remain under a no-fly order until 7 PM on Wednesday.
