Rainfall across several parts of Delhi-NCR on Thursday brought much-needed relief from the persistent heat and humidity, as the Southwest Monsoon continued to strengthen across North India.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a yellow alert for the national capital and adjoining areas, forecasting cloudy skies, moderate rainfall and strong surface winds over the coming days.
The rain lowered temperatures across Delhi, with the IMD recording maximums of 33°C to 34.8°C on Wednesday.
The department has forecast temperatures between 32°C and 34°C on Thursday, along with light rain and gusty winds, bringing further relief.
The weather department also said the Southwest Monsoon is likely to advance further across several parts of North India in the coming days, increasing the chances of widespread rainfall.
The IMD said the Southwest Monsoon continues to strengthen and will bring widespread rainfall across several northern states.
The department also issued an orange alert for Uttarakhand after the monsoon covered the entire state. It forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall in five districts, including Dehradun, warning of possible waterlogging, landslides and other rain-related disruptions.
According to the Dehradun Meteorological Centre, the monsoon spread across most parts of Uttarakhand on Tuesday before covering the entire state by Wednesday, resulting in widespread rainfall across several districts.
Rainfall data released by the weather department showed that Dehradun recorded 56 mm of rainfall, while Jolly Grant received 52.5 mm.
Other areas also witnessed significant showers, including Laksar (49 mm), Mussoorie (43 mm), Rudraprayag (32.5 mm), Haldwani (29.5 mm), Pauri Garhwal (28.5 mm), Kirtinagar (23.5 mm) and Khanpur (23 mm), highlighting the widespread impact of the advancing monsoon across the hill state.
