Delhi Weather Today: Rain, Cloudy Skies Bring Relief As Monsoon Nears

Residents of Delhi-NCR woke up to cloudy skies, cool breezes and light showers on Wednesday, bringing much-needed relief from several days of intense heat and humidity.

The changing weather signalled the approaching southwest monsoon, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasting rain and pleasant conditions across the region over the next four to five days.

Light rainfall was reported from several parts of Delhi, Noida and Ghaziabad during the early hours of the day.

Overcast skies and gentle winds helped keep temperatures under control, providing comfort to commuters and office-goers who had endured soaring temperatures throughout the past week.

The IMD has forecast light to moderate rain, thunderstorms and gusty winds across Delhi until July 6.

While the monsoon has not officially reached the capital, it is advancing steadily, with conditions favourable for its arrival.

The first spell of rain, along with strong winds on Tuesday night, brought noticeable relief from the oppressive heat.

The cooler conditions continued into Wednesday morning, raising expectations of an early monsoon onset in Delhi.

Just a day earlier, the city had recorded sweltering temperatures. Safdarjung, Delhi’s base weather station, registered a minimum of 31.2 degrees Celsius and a maximum of 40.5 degrees Celsius.

The Ridge recorded a maximum of 41.5 degrees Celsius, while Ayanagar registered 40.1 degrees Celsius.

The IMD said maximum temperatures had fallen by one to two degrees Celsius over the past 24 hours, while minimum temperatures rose slightly by a similar margin.

Daytime winds from the west-northwest blew at speeds of 15-20 kmph, further improving weather conditions and offering residents a welcome respite from the summer heat.
