Air Pollution Persists In Delhi-NCR As Temperature Climbs To 31°C

Delhi’s air quality on Tuesday remained in the poor to very poor category, with several monitoring stations reporting elevated pollution levels.

According to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), Anand Vihar recorded the highest Air Quality Index (AQI) reading at 331, placing it in the ‘very poor’ bracket.

Other major locations also reported concerning levels. Wazirpur registered an AQI of 310, Mundka 290, Dwarka-Sector-8 286, Jahangirpuri 274 and Rohini 271.

Areas such as ITO (269), Nehru Nagar (266), Vivek Vihar (262) and IGI Airport (T3) (260) remained in the ‘poor’ category.

Even central areas, including Chandni Chowk (218), Pusa (202) and Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium (202), recorded readings indicative of deteriorating air quality.

Amid rising pollution concerns, the Supreme Court of India asked the Centre to consider shifting coal-based industries out of Delhi-NCR and agreed to examine a proposal to bar coal-based thermal power plants within a 300-kilometre radius of the capital.

A Bench led by Chief Justice Surya Kant sought responses from the concerned Union ministries.

The Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) proposed the relocation plan and continues to coordinate regional pollution control measures.

Meanwhile, weather patterns have shifted since early February. While mornings and nights remain mildly chilly, strong afternoon sunshine now dominates Delhi-NCR.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecast light morning fog but no major alerts, with mainly clear skies across the city.

The IMD confirmed that the cold spell has ended, with minimum temperatures between 12°C and 14°C and maximums rising to 29°C–31°C.

As heat increases and pollution fluctuates, authorities are closely monitoring conditions as the capital transitions towards early summer.
