A mob comprised of the majority of women went on to burn the house of the accused. The accused is identified as Huirem Herodas Meitei. Video of the incident has surfaced over the internet.

The police reported that between 800 and 1,000 people invaded B. Phainom village with high-tech weapons, causing significant damage and looting.

The National Commission for Women has taken suo moto cognizance and asked State Police to take quick action.

There were 12 teams who were actively engaged in the search for the people who executed this heinous crime.  The search team started working as soon as the video of the accused went viral.

A police complaint claims that after killing one guy, the mob made two women strip off their cloth. A 19-year-old woman was allegedly subjected to gang sexual assault; when her brother attempted to stop it, he was killed.

Officials have reported that one policeman was killed and at least 10 people were injured as violent clashes erupted overnight in Manipur's west Kangpokpi area.

Manipur Chief Minister Biren N Singh put an end to the day-long rumour surrounding his resignation by clarifying that he would not be stepping down from his post.

According to a BJP-scheduled Tribe Morcha statement, since the ethnic unrest in Manipur began on May 3, more over 100 people have died.

A member of the minister's security team claimed that during the attack, the mob threw petrol bombs in all directions.
