The government said Monday that the Income Tax department launched a nationwide crackdown on fraudulent ITR deduction and exemption claims.

Over 30,000 taxpayers disclosed foreign assets worth Rs 30,300 crore in revised or belated ITRs, FM Sitharaman said Tuesday.

The government has raised an additional Rs 9,118 crore in tax revenue from over 9 million updated ITRs filed in the past four years.

The number of women filing ITR in India increased by 25%, rising from 1.83 crore in Assessment Year (AY) 2019-20 to 2.29 crore in AY 2023-24.
