Firecracker ban

The Delhi government has announced a year-long ban on all types of firecrackers in the national capital, effective from 1 January 2025.

The Supreme Court affirmed the right to a pollution-free environment, stating no religion endorses harmful practices like firecracker use.

On Wednesday morning, Delhi's air quality remained in the 'very poor' category for the sixth consecutive day following Diwali celebrations.

Delhi's air quality continues to deteriorate, with the Air Quality Index (AQI) hovering in the 'very poor' range on Tuesday.

According to the CPCB, a thick blanket of smog enveloped parts of Delhi, with air quality levels plunging into the 'Severe' category.

A dense layer of smog blanketed the Delhi-NCR region, with air quality plummeting into the 'poor' category amidst ongoing Diwali festivities.

In compliance with the Supreme Court's ruling, state governments have set a restricted window of time for people to let off firecrackers on Diwali.
