Ishan Kishan's replacement in the third T-20: Wasim Jaffer
Wasim Jaffer, a former India opener, believes that in the third T20I of the current series against the West Indies on Tuesday, superstar Ishan Kishan should make way for a promising young talent because of India’s struggling batting order. The team led by Rahul Dravid lost against the West Indies twice in a row for the first time since 2016. The second-string, captained by all-rounder Hardik Pandya, lost a nail-biting match in the final over at Brian Lara Stadium.
The Rohit Sharma-less side then upstaged the West Indies by two wickets in the 2nd T20I of the five-match series last week at Providence Stadium. Opener Kishan, who smashed back-to-back three half-centuries in the One Day International (ODI) series, has struggled to score runs against the same opposition in the shortest format.
In order to avoid losing the series, Dravid and company should rest Kishan for Tuesday’s third T20I against the West Indies, according to ex-Indian cricketer Jaffer. When discussing India’s potential starting XI for the series finale with ESPNCricinfo, Jaffer suggested that the hosts switch out Kishan for Yashasvi Jaiswal. Give Ishan Kishan a break; we are aware of his difficulties in the T20 internationals. When he plays next, he might return stronger,” Jaffer remarked.
In the first T20I between India and the West Indies, Kishan only managed 6 runs from 9 balls. The second T20I saw a strong start from the Indian southpaw. Hardik Pandya’s Team India scored a subpar total of 152-7 in 20 overs, but Kishan was destroyed by West Indies pacer Romario Shepherd for 27 off 23 balls. Yashasvi Jaiswal would be my first choice just because of his lack of fear.
