Virender Sehwag Criticizes Overhyped RCB Batting Following Defeat to LSG

Royal Challengers Bengaluru faced another setback on Tuesday as they succumbed to a 28-run defeat against Lucknow Super Giants at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium. This loss marks RCB’s third defeat in four matches, leaving them stranded at the ninth spot on the points table. Lucknow Super Giants, batting first, posted a formidable total of 181/5 in their allotted 20 overs, with Quinton de Kock smashing a commanding 81 off 56 balls. However, RCB’s batting line-up faltered during the chase, getting bowled out for 153. Mahipal Lomror emerged as the lone performer for RCB, crossing the 30-run mark.

Critiquing RCB’s lackluster performance, former Indian cricketer Manoj Tiwary highlighted the team’s middle-order woes, attributing their struggles to the absence of the legendary AB de Villiers. Tiwary also pointed out the underwhelming performances of players like Cameron Green and Glenn Maxwell, emphasizing the need for consistency in delivering match-winning performances throughout the tournament.

Responding to Tiwary’s remarks, former Indian opener Virender Sehwag stressed the rarity of players delivering match-winning performances in 7-8 matches, asserting that such consistency is not typically witnessed even in the IPL’s 17-year history. Sehwag emphasized the importance of consistent contributions over various matches rather than expecting multiple match-winning innings from a single player.

In the match itself, Lucknow Super Giants put up a commendable batting display, posting 181/5 on the board led by Quinton de Kock’s explosive innings. Despite RCB’s efforts, their inability to forge significant partnerships during the chase led to their downfall, resulting in a convincing 28-run victory for the visitors.

With Lucknow Super Giants securing two wins in three matches, they are set to face the 2022 champions Gujarat Titans on Sunday, while RCB will lock horns with Rajasthan Royals on Saturday in their quest for redemption.
