“This statement by Rohit in the media was inappropriate”: Gambhir

While praising Rahul Dravid’s tenure as coach and labelling it a triumph, Gautam Gambhir reminded captain Rohit Sharma that the squad wants to win the World Cup for the nation and not for any one player. In response to a query concerning Dravid’s future as India’s head coach, Gambhir responded. After the ODI World Cup, the former captain of India’s term came to an end, and if rumors are to be believed, he is not going to ask for an extension.

Gambhir stated that if Dravid wishes to continue, his contract should unquestionably be extended. “Dravid’s head coaching contract need to be automatically extended. He stated, “It is an incorrect precedent to judge a coach based on just one match given the type of cricket India played during the World Cup.”

The team wants to win the trophy for head coach Dravid in recognition of the sort of work he has done to improve the players, Rohit had stated on the eve of the final match against Australia.

Rohit shouldn’t have made such a comment to the media, according to Gambhir. The previous opener used the 2011 World Cup as an example, during which a number of Indian players publicly declared their desire to win the tournament in honor of Sachin Tendulkar.

“Every coach and player aspires to be the World Cup winners. He ought to be given the opportunity to be renewed if that is what he desires. There’s nothing greater than consistency. Nothing would ever make sense to me. It also transpired in 2011 under our tenure. It is incorrect to declare that you desire to win the World Cup as a person, regardless of who that is.
