Spain’s Thrilling 3-2 Win Over Belgium In Women’s Nations League

Spain’s defense of its UEFA Women’s Nations League title began in the most dramatic fashion, as they scored two injury-time goals to come back from a 2-0 deficit to win 3-2 at home to Belgium.

The match was a captivating spectacle, as Spain dominated possession and created multiple chances, but Belgium’s resilient defense and Nicky Evrard’s brilliant goalkeeping thwarted their efforts.

Belgium stunned Spain by taking a surprise 1-0 lead in the 18th minute after a defensive mistake from Spain, and further extended their advantage in the 72nd minute with a clinical finish from Tessa Wullaert.

As time ticked away, it seemed as though Spain’s dominance would go unrewarded, but they continued to press, knowing they had little time left to rescue the match.

Belgium’s Defensive Display Under Pressure

Belgium’s tactical discipline was evident as they sat deep and absorbed wave after wave of Spanish attacks.

Spain had over 25 shots and 19 corners throughout the match, but Belgium’s defense and Evrard’s heroics in goal kept them in the lead.

Spain’s key players like Claudia Pina, Aitana Bonmati, and Mariona Caldentey all tested Evrard, but she kept the scoreline intact with crucial saves.

However, Spain’s persistence finally paid off in the second half. The pressure was relentless, and Belgium began to show signs of fatigue.

After a header from Pina in the 77th minute, Spain seemed to be getting closer, but the Belgian defense still looked like it would hold on.

The Late Comeback

In the final moments of the match, Spain pulled off a remarkable turnaround. With just seconds left, Garcia connected with a cross from substitute Salma Paralluelo to pull one back.

The crowd erupted as Spain’s hopes of avoiding defeat were reignited.

In the dying seconds of the match, a free-kick from Spain caused chaos in the Belgian penalty area, and the ball eventually fell to Martin-Prieto, who made no mistake from close range to score the dramatic winner.

This unforgettable finish gave Spain the full three points in what was a thrilling encounter, and the victory reinforced their determination to defend their title in the competition.

Despite Belgium’s valiant effort, Spain scored late goals that proved too much to handle, securing the win in a thrilling contest remembered for its dramatic conclusion.
