Rajasthan Congress MLAs Spend Night In Assembly; Announce Statewide Protests

Six Congress MLAs in Rajasthan spent the night inside the Assembly as part of their protest against their suspension.

The protest followed remarks made by Social Justice Minister Avinash Gehlot about late Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, which the Congress party found deeply offensive.

The MLAs, including Rafiq Khan, stormed the House, leading to their suspension. In response, the Rajasthan Congress has called for statewide protests on Saturday.

Tensions Escalate With No Resolution In Sight

Despite late-night talks between government officials and senior Congress leaders, no agreement was reached.

Parliamentary Affairs Minister Jogaram Patel and other ministers met with Congress MLAs, but the discussions ended without a resolution.

Tensions have been high in the Assembly, with Congress MLAs remaining firm on their demands.

Statewide Protests And Agitation Plans

In response to the suspension, Congress has announced a statewide protest.

Party workers across Rajasthan will burn effigies of Minister Gehlot in all districts, expressing their opposition to both the suspension of their MLAs and the controversial remarks made about Indira Gandhi.

Leader of Opposition Tika Ram Jully condemned the government’s stance, accusing them of being stubborn and disrespecting the party’s demands.

The Controversial Remarks And Protests

The controversy began on Friday during the Question Hour when Minister Gehlot referred to Indira Gandhi as “your grandmother” while discussing a government scheme.

The comment sparked outrage among Congress members, who stormed the Well of the House in protest.

Gehlot defended his words, claiming that “grandmother” is a term of respect, but the situation quickly escalated into a heated exchange, causing multiple adjournments.

Protest To Continue Until Monday

With no compromise in sight, Congress MLAs have set up sleeping arrangements inside the Assembly, and the protest is expected to continue over the weekend.

As the House is in recess, the demonstration will carry on until Monday, when the Assembly resumes its proceedings.
