Khushi Secures Bronze In Women’s 50m Rifle 3 Positions At ISSF Junior World Championship

Young shooter Khushi has clinched the bronze medal in the women’s 50m rifle 3 positions (3P) event at the ongoing International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) Junior World Championship.

This achievement has propelled India’s medal tally to 15, comprising 10 gold, one silver, and four bronze medals, reinforcing the nation’s dominance in the standings.

Key Takeaways

Khushi delivered an impressive performance in the final, scoring 447.3.

She finished just behind Caroline Lund of Norway, who secured the silver with 458.3, while her compatriot Synnoeve Berg took gold with a score of 458.4.

The Indian shooter entered the final after placing seventh in the qualification round, where she shot a score of 585.

The competition was intense, as Khushi found herself tied with four other shooters at the same score.

However, her exceptional performance in the inner 10-ring, with 29 shots, allowed her and Italian Anna Schiavon to advance to the final, edging out Swiss athletes Alexa Tela and Emely Jaeggi, who managed 27 shots in the same category.

In the eight-woman final, Khushi initially stood fourth after the kneeling and prone positions.

However, she surged ahead of Norway’s Pernille Nor-Woll after the 40th shot, her tenth in the standing position.

The battle for the top two spots was fiercely contested between Synnoeve and Caroline throughout the 45-shot final.

Despite facing a setback on her 41st shot with a score of 9.1, Khushi rebounded strongly, delivering a stellar 10.7 on her 42nd shot and a solid 10.4 on her 43rd, securing her well-deserved bronze medal.

In the team competition for junior women’s 3P, the Indian trio of Sakshi Padekar, Melvina Joel Gladson, and Prachi Gaekwad finished fifth with a cumulative score of 1757.

Anoushka Thakur also scored 585 in the qualification round but placed 11th due to 26 hits in the inner-10 ring. Sakshi, Melvina, and Prachi ranked 24th, 32nd, and 41st, respectively.

India’s continued success at the ISSF Junior World Championship highlights the nation’s growing prowess in shooting sports, as athletes showcase their talent on an international platform.
