Rishabh Pant became the most expensive player in IPL history after Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) secured him for a record-breaking Rs 27 crore during the IPL 2025 Auction at the Abadi Al Johar Arena. The intense bidding war saw LSG outbid multiple franchises to claim the dynamic wicketkeeper-batsman.
Pant, released by Delhi Capitals (DC) ahead of the auction, attracted fierce competition. LSG launched the opening bid, quickly matched by Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB). Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) joined at Rs 10.5 crore, pushing the price past Rs 20 crore. LSG then sealed the deal with a historic Rs 27 crore bid after DC failed to use their Right to Match (RTM) card.
The former Delhi Capitals captain has played 111 IPL matches, scoring 3,284 runs, including 18 half-centuries and one century. His leadership and batting prowess made him a prized asset.
The Rs 27 crore bid surpassed Shreyas Iyer’s earlier record-breaking Rs 26.75 crore purchase by Punjab Kings (PBKS). The former Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) captain attracted heated bids, with PBKS finally outlasting Delhi Capitals and KKR.
PBKS, with the highest auction purse of Rs 110.5 crore, also secured pacer Arshdeep Singh using their RTM card for Rs 18 crore. They retained just two players before the auction and made significant moves, including claiming Shreyas Iyer as a marquee player.
Gujarat Titans, with a Rs 69 crore purse, bought Kagiso Rabada for Rs 10.75 crore. The two-day auction promises more big buys as teams rebuild for IPL 2025.
