Following the T20 World Cup in 2024, what is Rohit-Virat’s future in white-ball cricket

BCCI released the squads for Team India’s forthcoming tour of South Africa, following the absence of Rohit-Virat in white-ball series

The BCCI released the squads for Team India’s forthcoming tour of South Africa on Thursday. While the rest given to Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli from the white-ball leg was the main takeaway from the squads.

The BCCI addressed questions regarding Rohit and Kohli’s nonattendance from the white-ball leg in a tweet that was sent out after the squad announcement. The tweet stated, “Mr. Virat Kohli and Mr. Rohit Sharma had requested the Board for a break from the white-ball leg of the tour.” Additionally, it said that Mohammed Shami, who was chosen for the Tests, will join the team contingent on his fitness.

There had been a lot of conjecture that Rohit might resume captaincy in Twenty20 Internationals and that the board was attempting to persuade the 36-year-old to return to the format. Rohit and Kohli last played for their country in Twenty20 Internationals (T20Is) at the T20 World Cup in 2022. Since then, Hardik Pandya had been leading the team in the shortest format; however, following the all-rounder’s injury during the October ODI World Cup, Suryakumar Yadav assumed control of the team.

With the T20 World Cup scheduled for June 2024, the focus remains on the shortest format for the time being. Concerns regarding Rohit and Kohli’s future in the format are raised by their absence from the white-ball leg.
