Asian Games 2023 : Lovlina’s Dream Run Ends In Final

India ended its boxing campaign with a total of five medals, that included one silver and four bronze

Lovlina Borgohain, winner of Olympic medal, had her dreams crushing down when she went down to the local favourite  Li Qian. Qian is also a double medallist in the Olympics. Lovlina, so far, was unbeaten in the 75 kg category and she had to contend with the silver medal.

However, she has managed to find a place in the Paris Olympics. She was the first medal winner in boxing ever since M. C. Mary Kom won it in the 2014 Asiad at Incheon. Incidentally both Lovlina and Mary Kom hails from North- East.

The 26-year-old Indian entered the title clash with an advantage of having recently triumphing the Chinese boxer in the semifinals of the women’s 75 kg at the World Championships, held in New Delhi.

Li Qian used all her technical power to avenge the loss with a 5-0  win for the gold medal. In the opening round, the Chinese opted relentless attack forcing Lovlina on the back foot, and the defensive approach even got the Indian a stern warning from the judges, who eventually awarded the round 3-2 in the home boxer’s favour.
