AB De Villiers Is Disappointed With the Indian Team Selection For The Asia Cup 2023

The BCCI named the 17-member roster for the forthcoming Asia Cup, which will begin next week throughout Pakistan and Sri Lanka, on Monday earlier this week. India’s captain, Rohit Sharma, and BCCI chief selector, Ajit Agarkar, were present for the announcement, which was made at a press conference. Ajit Agarkar said that this squad was likely to be the core for the upcoming World Cup 2023, which will follow the continental championship.

Both the team management and the supporters can now breathe easier with the addition of KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer to the roster. Finding a spot for both injured players in the starting lineup indicates success. Rahul’s participation in the opening rounds of the Asia Cup may be impeded by a slight injury issue, according to Agarkar, who also stated that Iyer’s recuperation has been completed.

Will the lack of a wrist spinner cause an issue?

However, certain omissions from the list have generated discussion, most notably the absence of Yuzvendra Chahal. The decision to leave out the wrist spinner has generated doubts, with the management’s inclination moving towards Kuldeep Yadav instead. Many criticised the leg-spinner’s non-selection after his absence raised significant eyebrows, and AB de Villiers is the most recent to join the list.

The former South African captain, who shared a locker room with Chahal when playing for Royal Challengers Bangalore in the Indian Premier League, called the leg-spinner’s exclusion from the starting lineup “disappointing.”

Chahal had to be on the team. De Villiers

“Chahal has been removed, with the selectors making it plain who they would choose. It’s a little upsetting for me because Yuzi is always really helpful, and having a leg-spinning option on your team is great. De Villiers stated on his official YouTube channel, “We know how skilled he is.

The leg-spinner didn’t participate in any of the games in the just finished ODI series against the West Indies. Chahal had been inconsistent in the fifty-over format for some time. In the T20Is, Chahal had an economy rate of 9.05 while taking five wickets in as many games.
