Bengal Government Writes To SC Regarding Security Arrangements In State Ahead Of Ram Mandir Inauguration

In response to concerns from opposition parties about a potential law and order crisis in West Bengal on the day of the consecration of the Ram temple in Ayodhya on January 22, Governor CV Ananda Bose wrote to chief Secretary BP Gopalika requesting details of the security arrangements in the state, according to a Raj Bhavan official. "The governor wants to know the arrangements made by the state government on January 22. He has sent an email to the chief secretary and a hard copy will soon reach the secretariat," the official told PTI.

ED Conducts Raids In Kolkata In Bengal School Jobs Scam

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) started conducting raids simultaneously at seven places in and around Kolkata in connection with its probe into the alleged irregularities in recruitment in schools of West Bengal, a senior officer said. Raids are being held at the residences and offices of those who allegedly "acted as middlemen" in the scam, he said.
"These middlemen used to collect money and transfer it to various addresses. We are conducting raids at residences and offices used by them," the ED officer told PTI. Accompanied by a huge number of central forces, the ED officers started search operations at New Town and Nayabad on the eastern fringes of Kolkata, he said. Family members of the alleged middlemen are being questioned, he said, adding that ED officers are yet to enter one of the offices of a middleman since it was closed.

PM Modi To Lay Foundation Stones Of 8 AMRUT Projects In Maharashtra On January 19

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate or lay the foundation stones of several development projects at Solapur in Maharashtra on January 19. At a public program to be held around 10.45 am in the southern Maharashtra city, he will lay the foundation stones of eight AMRUT (Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation) projects in the state worth around Rs 2,000 crore, it said. He will also dedicate more than 90,000 houses built under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban). Further, the PM will also dedicate 15,000 houses of the Raynagar Housing Society in Solapur whose beneficiaries include thousands of handloom workers, vendors, powerloom workers, rag pickers, Bidi workers and drivers, among others. Modi will also kickstart the distribution of first and second installments to 10,000 beneficiaries of PM-SVANIDHI in Maharashtra during the programme.

Three Leopard Cubs Found Abandoned In Aarey Colony In Mumbai

The forest department is making efforts to reunite three leopard cubs who were found in the Aarey Colony area in suburban Mumbai with their mother, an official said. The cubs were found on Tuesday morning near a dry water tank, drawing a crowd. Rescue teams of the forest department and SGNP reached the spot and initiated an operation to reunite the cubs with their mother. Camera traps and CCTV cameras have been installed at the spot and the cubs are being monitored, said a forest official.

Rajasthan Governor Offers ‘Chadar’ At Ajmer Sharif

A 'chadar' was offered at Ajmer Sharif Dargah on behalf of  Rajasthan Governor Kalraj Mishra on Wednesday on the occasion of the 812th Urs of revered Sufi saint Khwaja Moinuddin Hasan Chishti. According to an official statement, the governor's chief special officer Govindram Jaiswal reached Ajmer Sharif and presented a 'chadar' on behalf of the governor. Later, a message of Governor Mishra was read out. In the message, Mishra said that Khwaja Saheb is the messenger of the Ganga-Jamuni culture of the country, the statement said. Mishra called for spreading the message of peace and love of Khwaja Moinuddin Hasan Chishti to the people. He said that Khwaja Saheb's Urs is a symbol of emotional unity which always brings the message of peace and love. The governor also said that Indian culture is associated with the noble life values of saints and prophets, according to the statement.
