These places in country recorded lowest freezing temperatures today
Many states in the country have recorded freezing temperatures today. Hisar in Haryana was at 4.2°C low, Chandigarh recorded 6°C and Lodhi Road area in Delhi registered 6.1°C today. Shahjahanpur in Uttar Pradesh 7.5°C and Gaya in Bihar recorded 6.3°C respectively. Churu in Rajasthan shivered at 3.8°C, Gwalior in Madhya Pradesh was at 6.5°C while Ludhiana in Punjab recorded a minimum temperature of 2.8°C.
ICMR working on genome sequencing of new JN.1 variant of SARS-CoV-2: Union Health Ministry
According to the Union Health Ministry officials, the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) is working on genome sequencing of the novel JN.1 variant of SARS-CoV-2. According to Dr. V K Paul, a member of NITI Aayog's health committee, 21 cases of the COVID-19 subvariant JN.1 have been found so far nationwide. He stressed the need for states to step up testing and strengthen their surveillance system while stating that the scientific community in India was closely examining the new variant.

Pakistan's former prime minister Nawaz Sharif would contest elections from Mansehra region of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, his son-in-law Captain (retd.) Muhammad Safdar said on Wednesday. Safdar, who hails from Mansehra and is married to Sharif's daughter Maryam Nawaz, told the media that the 73-year-old three time former premier would submit his nomination papers for the National Assembly seat "NA 15 Mansehra-cum-Torghar constituency" by Thursday (December 21).
