Two separate earthquakes hit Ladakh, J-K’s Kishtwar

Two earthquakes of mild intensity struck Ladakh and Jammu and Kashmir early Tuesday, officials said. There were no immediate reports of any damage due to the tremors, they said. The epicentre of the two quakes were in Ladakh's Leh district and Jammu and Kashmir's Kishtwar district, they added. According to the National Centre of Seismology (NCS), an earthquake of 4.5 magnitude occurred at 4.33 am in Ladakh.

Telangana CM Revanth Reddy to meet PM Modi in Delhi

Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy and his deputy Bhatti Vikramarka are likely to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Delhi on Tuesday. According to government sources, the chief minister will flag issues related to pending projects and dues from the Central government. Based on the availability of time, the CM and his deputy may meet the senior leadership of Congress to discuss the party's affairs. Reddy may fly back to the city tonight, sources said.

Covid-positive samples sent for genome sequencing

The Delhi government has sent COVID-19-positive samples to laboratories for genome sequencing, officials said on Tuesday. Sixty-three cases of Covid sub-variant JN.1 were reported in the country till Sunday, including 34 in Goa, official sources said. Nine cases have been detected in Maharashtra, eight in Karnataka, six in Kerala, four in Tamil Nadu and two in Telangana, they added.

President Droupadi Murmu today gave her assent to the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita and Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam leglislations, three laws that will replace the existing colonial-era Indian Penal Code (IPC), the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC), and the Evidence Act.Parliament passed the three Bills during the recently concluded winter session and shortly after two-thirds of opposition MPs were suspended for creating a ruckus in the House.

The death toll from an Israeli airstrike in central Gaza rises to 106, Palestinian officials say

Palestinian medical officials say the death toll from an Israeli airstrike in central Gaza has risen to 106. The announcement makes the Sunday night airstrike in the Maghazi refugee camp among the deadliest in Israel's air campaign in Gaza, launched on October 7 in response to a deadly cross-border attack by Hamas militants. Hospital officials initially said 68 people had died. On Monday, first responders retrieved more than three dozen additional bodies that were taken to the Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital in Deir al-Balah. Hospital records seen by The Associated Press listed 106 deaths.
