Russian President Vladimir Putin has invited Prime Minister Narendra Modi to visit Russia next year as External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar called on the Russian leader at the Kremlin. Putin told Jaishankar, "We will be glad to see our friend, Mr. Prime Minister Modi in Russia." Jaishankar earlier met with his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov.
13 dead after bus catches fire following accident in Madhya Pradesh
At least 13 people have been killed after a passenger bus caught fire following an accident in Madhya Pradesh's Guna on Wednesday night. Seventeen others were injured in the accident, where a private bus collided head-on with a dumper on the Guna-Aaron road. The injured peole have been shifted to nearby hospitals.

LIC appoints SS Krishnan as Chief Risk Officer
Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC) on Wednesday said it has appointed S Sunder Krishnan as Chief Risk Officer (CRO). He replaces Pratap Chandra Paikray, who has ceased to be CRO, LIC said in a regulatory filing. Krishnan, a chartered accountant, worked in leadership roles at Reliance Nippon Life Insurance for 18 years. He has work experience in leadership roles at DSP Merrill Lynch, ING Vysya, Credit Lyonnais Bank and Bank International Indonesia.
Two ULFA militants nabbed by Assam Police and Assam Rifles in joint operation
The two militants, identified as self-styled sergeants Major Bibek Asom and Mrigen Asom, were apprehended from Phaneng along the Assam-Arunachal Pradesh border, police added. Security and patrolling had intensified in Tinsukia following the grenade blast near an army camp at Dirak in Tinsukia on November 22. The ULFA(I) had claimed responsibility for the blast along with two subsequent grenade explosions near security establishments in Sivasagar and Jorhat. Earlier, police had arrested a person in connection with the Tinsukia blast.
Bengal Cabinet clears proposal to appoint Rajeev Kumar as acting DGP
West Bengal Cabinet cleared a proposal to appoint Rajeev Kumar as acting Director General of Police (DGP). Kumar, currently Principal Secretary in the Information Technology Department, had earlier served as Commissioner of Kolkata Police. A 1989-batch IPS officer, Kumar will be replacing the current DGP, Manoj Malviya, who is scheduled to retire on Thursday.
