2 Indian journalists among “recently targeted with Pegasus spyware on their iPhones”: Report
A forensic investigation by Amnesty International’s Security Lab in partnership with The Washington Post has claimed that two Indian journalists were among those “recently targeted with Pegasus spyware on their iPhones”. Pegasus is an invasive spyware developed by Israeli surveillance firm NSO Group. The NSO Group has always maintained it deals only with governments and that too after intense scrutiny Siddharth Varadarajan of The Wire and Anand Mangnale of The Organized Crime and Corruption Reporting Project (OCCRP) had been targeted with the spyware on their iPhones. India's government did not immediately respond to the report, which said the most recent identified case of spyware use occurred in October.
Two schoolgirls run over by train during new track trial in Indore; railway minister orders probe
Two Class X girls have died after being run over by a train that was being operated as part of tests on a newly laid track in Madhya Pradesh's Indore, prompting Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw to order an inquiry, an official said. Babli Masare and Radhika Bhaskar, both 17 years of age, died in Kailod Hala area on Thursday evening when a newly constructed track was being tested by running a train, an official release said.
Couple, minor daughter found hanging inside home in Raipur
A couple and their 14-year-old daughter were found hanging inside their house in Chhattisgarh's capital Raipur, police said on Friday. The man worked as a driver for a steel trader. Police suspect that the trio might have died by suicide. Lakhanlal Sen (48), his wife Ranu Sen (42) and daughter Payal were found hanging from a hook, used to hang ceiling fans, with a rope inside a room in their home in BSUP colony under Tikrapara police station limits on Thursday late evening, a police official here said.
Intense cold conditions in Kashmir, dense fog in several places
Dense fog shrouded many parts of Kashmir where the minimum temperature dropped several degrees below the freezing point, officials said on Friday. Kashmir is currently in the grip of "Chilla-i-Kalan", a 40-day harsh winter period, when temperatures drop considerably leading to the freezing of water bodies, including the Dal Lake, as well as water in supply lines.

Visibility improves in Delhi, dense to moderate fog in isolated areas
After two days of dense to very dense fog, visibility improved in many parts of Delhi on Friday as most fog transformed into low clouds, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). Dense to moderate fog conditions were witnessed in isolated pockets of the capital in the early hours of the day. The IMD said the improvement in visibility can be attributed to the breaking of the inversion layer this morning, in contrast to the conditions observed from December 25 to 28, indicating weakening of the lower-level stable boundary layer.
ISRO’s Ambitious Vision: Launching 50 Satellites in Next Five Years for Advanced Geo-Intelligence Gathering
Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) plans to launch 50 satellites in the next five years for geo-intelligence gathering. These satellites will be deployed in various orbits to monitor troop movements and capture images of extensive areas. The goal is to enhance India's geo-intelligence capabilities and mitigate threats to the country. The satellites will span from geostationary equatorial orbit (GEO) to lower earth orbit (LEO) and very low earth orbit, allowing for critical assessment of different situations. Isro also highlighted the establishment of communication between satellites for collaborative monitoring.
