Bengaluru: The Federation of Karnataka Truck Owners Association announced that they would go on an indefinite strike starting January 17. Their protest is against proposed strict measures for hit-and-run cases under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Drone recovered near IB in Punjab’s Ferozepur
A drone was recovered near the India-Pakistan border in Punjab's Ferozepur district on Sunday, said a BSF spokesperson. Acting on specific information, the Border Security Force (BSF) troops conducted a search operation in Hazara Singh Wala village in Ferozepur.During the search operation, the troops recovered a China-made quadcopter from mud near the Hazara Singh Wala bridge water channel, the spokesperson said.
8-year-old raped by two minors in Ghaziabad
An eight-year-old girl was allegedly raped by two teenage boys in Trans Hindon area, police said on Sunday."The girl was alone at her home on Saturday when the boys, both aged 14, entered her home in their neighbourhood and raped her," Deputy Commissioner of Police Nimish Patil said. "An FIR has been registered at the Kaushambi police station and the accused have been apprehended," the DCP said. In a separate case, a 10-year-old girl was allegedly raped by her 14-year-old cousin in an area under the Tronica City police station. According to police, the accused took the girl to a cattle shed and raped her. The accused fled the spot when the girl raised an alarm. Loni Assistant Commissioner of Police Suryabali Maurya said upon getting a message from the control room, police reached there and sent the girl for medical examination. Police have lodged a case and apprehended the accused.
Bangladesh PM Hasina re-elected to parliament from Gopalganj-3 constituency
Bangladesh Prime Minister and Awami League chief Sheikh Hasina was re-elected to parliament on Sunday from the Gopalganj-3 constituency after a landslide victory in the general elections marred by sporadic violence and a boycott by the main opposition Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP).Hasina, 76, bagged 249,965 votes while her nearest rival M Nizam Uddin Lashkar from the Bangladesh Supreme Party secured just 469 votes, bdnews24 reported.Gopalganj Deputy Commissioner and Returning Officer Kazi Mahbubul Alam announced the result. She has won the Gopalganj-3 seat for the eighth time since 1986.Prime Minister Hasina, who has been ruling the strategically located South Asian nation since 2009, is set to secure a record fourth consecutive term and fifth overall term.The ruling Awami League candidates are leading in most of the seats, according to the results so far. Earlier, the counting of votes started after the polling ended in the general elections which registered low voter turnout.According to the initial estimates, the voter turnout was around 40 per cent but the figure could change after the final count, Chief Election Commissioner Kazi Habibul Awal said.
Security upped after Raman Science Centre gets bomb threat email
A case has been filed after the Raman Science Centre in Nagpur received an email threatening a bomb blast, a police official said on Sunday. The threatening email was received on Friday and a thorough check of the premises by the Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad and other security units did not yield anything suspicious, the Ganeshpeth police station official said. "We have intensified checking in the vicinity and deployed additional personnel for patrolling," he said. The Raman Science Centre, named after Nobel Laureate physicist Chandrasekhara Venkata Raman, is affiliated to the Nehru Science Centre in Mumbai, which along with Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Museum, Byculla Zoo and several other important sites in Mumbai received such bomb threat emails on Friday.
PM Modi wraps up 3-day visit to Rajasthan, leaves for Delhi
Prime Minister Narendra Modi wrapped up his three-day visit to Rajasthan and left for Delhi Sunday afternoon. Rajasthan Governor Kalraj Mishra and Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma bade him farewell at the Jaipur airport. Modi reached Jaipur Friday evening and attended a meeting of BJP MLAs and office-bearers at the party office. On Saturday and Sunday, he attended the 58th conference of the top brass of police forces from across the country. Top police officers in the ranks of Director General of Police (DGP) and Inspector General of Police (IGP) took part in the conference and discussed internal security issues such as cyber crime and counterterrorism challenges and the implementation of the recently enacted three criminal laws among others. Governor Mishra had a special meeting with the prime minister at the Raj Bhavan Rest House and discussed issues related to the development of the state.

Senior citizen killed in tiger attack in Chandrapur
A 63-year-old man was killed on Sunday afternoon by a tiger in Chandrapur in Maharashtra, a forest department official said. Shyamrao Thidsurwar had gone into the jungle in Ballarshah Range of Central Chanda Division on a bicycle to collect firewood when he was attacked by a tiger, the official said. The body was found 4 kilometres away from the forest boundary in compartment 492, he added. "His kin have been given Rs 25,000 as initial aid. Camera traps and response teams have been activated at the site to monitor the tiger's movement so that there is no repeat of such an incident," the official said.
