When is Father’s Day celebrated in India?

This year, the third Sunday is not an ordinary weekend. People across the globe will mark Father’s Day on June 18. Apart from India, it is also marked in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Argentina, Canada, France, Greece, India, Ireland, Mexico, Pakistan, Singapore, South Africa, and Venezuela.

 Father’s Day Origin and Importance

Sonora Smart Dodd, the daughter of a Civil War veteran, wanted to give tribute to all fathers everywhere, thus she started Father’s Day in the US. William Jackson Smart had six children and was a single parent.

His daughter made the decision to honor him by holding Father’s Day on June 5, 1982, the day of his birth. She is believed to have drawn inspiration from Anna Jarvis, who created Mother’s Day.

Her road was anything but straightforward, though, as her church refused to support her request. Eventually, she had to rally several other local churches for support. Finally, the date got pushed from June 5 to the third Sunday of June.

In 1910, Father’s Day was marked for the first time. For a father or other father figure and a child, Father’s Day is a meaningful occasion. On this day, kids show their dads they appreciate them, thank them for being there, and express their appreciation for the emotional, mental, and financial contributions they make in our lives.
