The Rouse Avenue Court will continue hearing the defamation case filed by former Delhi health minister Satyendra Jain against BJP MP Bansuri Swaraj on January 22. During the latest proceedings, Swaraj’s lawyer submitted documents to counter the allegations.
Opposing Jain’s complaint, Swaraj’s lawyer argued it was politically motivated and intended for electoral gains. He emphasized that Jain, previously jailed in a money laundering case, is using the complaint to divert attention.
The case stems from an October 5, 2023, TV interview in which Swaraj allegedly accused Jain of misconduct. According to Jain’s petition, Swaraj claimed that ₹3 crore in cash, 1.8 kg of gold, and 133 gold coins were recovered from his house. She also called him ‘fake’ during the interview.

Jain, who was arrested on May 30, 2022, in a money laundering case, is currently out on bail. The CBI had filed an FIR against him in 2017. Jain contends that Swaraj’s statements tarnished his reputation and sought legal redress through a criminal defamation petition.
The court first took cognizance of the complaint on December 16 and issued a notice to Swaraj. The matter remains contentious, with both sides presenting contrasting narratives.
The upcoming hearing will be closely watched as the case unfolds against the backdrop of political tensions and allegations of misuse of the legal system.
