Court Summons Lalu Prasad, Family In Land-For-Job Scam; Hearing On March 11

Rouse Avenue Court has issued summons to former Railway Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav, his family members including Tejashwi Yadav, Tej Pratap Yadav, Hema Yadav, Bhola Yadav, Prem Chand Gupta, and others, directing them to appear on March 11.

The court has also granted an option for them to appear via video conferencing. This summons follows the filing of a supplementary charge sheet by the CBI.

Supplementary Charge Sheet &  Accused Individuals

The special judge, Vishal Gogna, took cognizance of the supplementary charge sheet filed by the CBI, which includes 78 individuals as accused.

Of these, 38 are candidates who received jobs in the railways in exchange for land.

The charge sheet also names some officials, including Bhola Yadav, who had served as Lalu Prasad’s secretary and played a crucial role in coordinating the job transactions.

Bhola Yadav was allegedly responsible for instructing officials to implement these job-related exchanges.

MHA Approves Prosecution Of Former Officials

During the last hearing, the CBI informed the court that the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) had granted approval to prosecute former government official R.K. Mahajan.

Additionally, the CBI has already received permission to prosecute 30 other government employees involved in the scam.

This case revolves around allegations of corruption where Lalu Prasad and his family reportedly facilitated jobs in exchange for land.

Details Of The Land-For-Job Scam

The land-for-job scam took place between 2004 and 2009 when Lalu Prasad was serving as the Railway Minister.

During this period, he allegedly gave railway jobs to several individuals without advertisements or formal processes.

In return, Lalu Prasad and his family reportedly received land from these candidates, which was transferred into their names.

Ongoing Investigations By CBI and ED

The CBI and Enforcement Directorate (ED) are both investigating this case.

The CBI has filed multiple charge sheets since 2022, implicating Lalu Prasad’s family members, including his wife Rabri Devi and daughter Misa Bharti.

In 2023, the court granted bail to Lalu, Rabri, and Tejashwi in connection with the case.

The upcoming March 11 hearing will further progress the investigation and legal proceedings, shedding more light on the details of this land-for-job scam.
