The Patiala House Court has rejected MP Rashid Engineer’s request for interim bail or custody parole. Rashid, accused in a terror funding case, sought permission to attend the ongoing Parliament session.
Rashid argued that, as an elected representative, he must fulfill his responsibility by attending the session from March 10 to April 4. Earlier, the Delhi High Court granted him two days of custody parole. However, the Patiala House Court denied further relief and directed a quick decision on his pending regular bail plea.
NIA Links Rashid To Terror Funding
The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has linked Rashid to terror funding allegations. His name surfaced during the interrogation of Kashmiri businessman Zahoor Watali, who was arrested for financing terrorist groups in Jammu and Kashmir.
In March 2022, the court framed charges against Hafiz Saeed, Syed Salahuddin, Yasin Malik, Shabbir Shah, Masrat Alam, Rashid Engineer, Zahoor Watali, Bitta Karate, and Aftab Butt (alias Peer Saifullah). The NIA accused Lashkar-e-Taiba, Hizbul Mujahideen, JKLF, and Jaish-e-Mohammed of funding attacks on civilians and security forces, with support from Pakistan’s ISI.
The All Party Hurriyat Conference, formed in 1993, allegedly played a major role in separatist activities. The court will soon decide on Rashid Engineer’s regular bail plea.
