CJI Justice Bhushan Ramkrishna Gavai on Saturday inaugurated the newly constructed advocate chambers and multilevel parking facility at the Allahabad High Court.
During the event, he declared that it is the judiciary’s and the executive’s fundamental duty to ensure justice reaches the last citizen of the country.
Justice Gavai emphasised that India has remained united and resilient in the face of crises over the past 75 years, attributing this strength to the Constitution.
“Our Constitution has driven India’s progress and unity, even during emergencies. The credit for this enduring strength belongs to the Constitution,” he said.
He recalled Baba Saheb Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar’s presentation of the Constitution’s final draft in 1949 and reiterated Ambedkar’s message that democracy cannot thrive without eliminating social and economic inequality.
The Chief Justice highlighted the transformative role of the judiciary and executive in shaping post-independence India.
“We have enacted laws that took land from landlords and gave it to farmers, empowered the labour class, and ensured socio-economic justice,” he said.
Justice Gavai expressed gratitude to Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath for allocating funds for the expansive facility.
“This modern facility is a gift to the legal fraternity and a proud moment for Prayagraj,” he noted.
The inauguration also coincided with the birth anniversary of Ahilyabai Holkar, a symbol of social justice.
Speaking on the legacy of Prayagraj, Justice Gavai highlighted the city’s contribution to law, literature, and India’s freedom struggle.
He mentioned legal luminaries like Motilal Nehru and Tej Bahadur Sapru, and literary giants such as Mahadevi Verma and Harivansh Rai Bachchan.
“This land belongs to powerful people,” he remarked, recalling freedom fighter Chandrashekhar Azad’s sacrifice.
Calling the newly inaugurated building one of the finest worldwide, Justice Gavai praised the scale and amenities.
“I have not seen such a facility for advocates anywhere else,” he said, adding that it sets a benchmark for other Bar Associations across India.
He praised CM Yogi Adityanath’s efforts to build judicial facilities across all districts.
Justice Gavai emphasised that the facility isn’t just for judges and lawyers, but also for litigants.
“New constructions will provide amenities for everyone, including women and persons with disabilities,” he said.
These initiatives, he added, reflect a broader mission to make justice accessible for every citizen.
Justice Gavai applauded the High Court judges who gave up their official residences to enable the construction of the new chambers.
He called this a rare example of bar-bench cooperation.
“Without unity between the bar and bench, the chariot of justice cannot move forward,” he said.
Justice Gavai concluded the event by congratulating the Allahabad High Court, its judges, and the Bar Association.
He reaffirmed the judiciary’s commitment to empowering every citizen through justice and hailed the newly inaugurated facility as a symbol of this mission.
