Yogi Government Launches Major Project To Revamp Prayagraj Ghats Ahead Of Maha Kumbh 2025

Under CM Yogi Adityanath, the Uttar Pradesh government has launched a project to rejuvenate Prayagraj’s iconic ghats ahead of Maha Kumbh 2025.

Yogi Government Project

The Uttar Pradesh government, under Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, has launched an ambitious project to rejuvenate the iconic ghats of Prayagraj, setting the stage for a grand transformation before the Maha Kumbh 2025.

Drawing inspiration from the famous ghats of Kashi, the renovation aims to blend tradition with modernity, enhancing these sacred riverfront spaces.

Seven key ghats along the Ganga and Yamuna rivers are currently undergoing extensive renovation.

With over fifty percent of the work completed, the government is ensuring these ghats will be ready to accommodate the millions of pilgrims and tourists expected during the upcoming Maha Kumbh.

These riverfronts hold immense religious and cultural significance, particularly during the Kumbh Mela, where devotees perform ritual baths in the holy rivers.

Acknowledging the spiritual importance of the ghats, the Yogi administration is pushing forward with this beautification drive to create more welcoming, vibrant spaces for visitors.

Project Led By Jal Nigam

The Uttar Pradesh Jal Nigam’s Construction and Design Division is spearheading the project, with engineer Rohit Kumar Rana overseeing the on-ground efforts.

The renovation project, costing Rs 11.01 crore, is making steady progress. Once the monsoon floodwaters recede, work is likely to accelerate further.

The seven ghats being revitalized are: Balua Ghat, Kalighat, Rasulabad Ghat, Chhatnag Ghat Jhunsi, Nageshwar Ghat Jhunsi, Maujgiri Ghat, and Purana Arail Ghat.

Each location is at varying stages of completion, with significant work already done at some of the sites.

For example, Maujgiri Ghat has seen 40 percent of its renovation completed, while Kalighat is already halfway finished.

Modernizing Visitor Experience

In addition to structural upgrades, the project focuses on improving amenities for visitors.

Plans are in place to introduce green belts along the ghats to maintain cleanliness and provide a serene atmosphere.

Authorities are installing several modern facilities, including umbrellas, high-mast lights, and seating arrangements, to ensure comfort for the influx of pilgrims.

Water stations equipped with RO systems, mobile toilets, and changing rooms will be available, improving the overall convenience for visitors.

The goal is to create a balance between preserving the spiritual essence of the ghats while ensuring they cater to the needs of modern-day devotees and tourists.

With completion likely by November, the Yogi government is optimistic that the revamped ghats will not only enhance the Maha Kumbh experience but also leave a lasting legacy for future visitors to Prayagraj.
