“We Aim To Build World-Class Infrastructure For Tourism”: PM Modi in G20 Tourism Ministers’ Meeting

PM Modi on his state visit to US virtually attended the G20 Tourism Ministers’ Meeting On Wednesday in Goa. While attending the meeting he remarked on terrorism, tourism and India’s aim to preserve  its cultural heritage and build world class heritage for the tourism sector.

Talking about terrorism PM Modi said that, “It is said that terrorism divides but tourism unites. Indeed, tourism has the potential to unite people from all walks of life, creating a harmonious society. I am happy to note that a G20 tourism dashboard is being developed in partnership with UNWTO. It will bring together best practices, case studies and inspiring stories.”

“India attracts pilgrims from every major religion of the world. After the infrastructure upgrade, the eternal city of Varanasi, just one of the major spiritual centres now attracts 70 million pilgrims. We are also creating new tourist attractions such as the ‘Statue of Unity’. It attracted about 2.7 million people within a year after it was built. In the last nine years, we have placed special emphasis on developing the entire ecosystem of tourism in the country,” PM Modi further added.

PM Modi gave a message of Atithi Devo Bhava during his virtual address at the meet. He stated that, “Our ancient scriptures have a saying ‘Atithi Devo Bhava’ meaning ‘Guest is God’. And that is our approach to tourism. Our tourism is not just about sightseeing. It is an immersive experience, during our G20 presidency, we are organizing nearly 200 meetings in 100 different locations all over India.”

He further added, “During the hosting of G-20, we are organising more than 200 meetings at 100 different places in the country. We aim to preserve our cultural heritage and build world-class infrastructure for the tourism sector,” says PM Modi as he virtually addresses the G-20 Tourism Ministers.”
