Voter Turnout At 01:00 PM: West Bengal At 61.11% In Phase 2

Voting in the second phase of the West Bengal Assembly Elections 2026 saw a turnout of 61.11 per cent by 1 PM on Wednesday across 142 constituencies, slightly below the 62.18 per cent recorded during the same period in the first phase.

District-wise data showed East Burdwan leading with 66.80 per cent polling, followed by Hooghly at 64.57 per cent. Nadia reported 61.41 per cent, while Howrah stood at 60.68 per cent. Kolkata (North) recorded 60.18 per cent turnout, North 24 Parganas 59.20 per cent, South 24 Parganas 58.58 per cent, and Kolkata (South) 57.73 per cent.

Despite being marginally lower than the first phase, participation remained significantly higher than the 45.10 per cent turnout recorded during the same hours in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

Authorities reported isolated incidents of tension and disruption from some areas, though no casualties or major injuries were recorded.

Officials attributed the relatively smooth conduct of polling to extensive monitoring by central forces, supported by 142 general observers and 95 police observers.

In South 24 Parganas’ Falta constituency, allegations surfaced. Some villagers were reportedly threatened by ruling party workers regarding their voting choices.

Following the complaints, personnel from the Central Reserve Police Force were deployed to the area. They escorted voters safely to polling stations.

Earlier in the day, the constituency drew attention after reports emerged. A button on an Electronic Voting Machine linked to a candidate was partially covered.

The Election Commission of India has ordered an inquiry into the matter.

Polling continues under tight security across all constituencies.
