Six persons were detained for violence days after a mob participating in Muharram rally clashed with police in Nangloi, West Delhi, injuring six officers. The main suspect, Sahil Salmani, who raised a sword in the air and roused the mob, is also under police custody.
According to FIR, mob pelted stones at police, attacked them with swords in order to kill them, destroyed public property, and even threw stones at the general public. Sahil Salmani, according to the police, got his hair chopped short after the violence to avoid police arrest.

After being stopped from changing the planned route during Muharram rally, mob also caused damage to a number of vehicles, officials informed news agency PTI.
According to the police, a small number of “tazia” procession organizers attempted to deviate from the predetermined route, which led to the altercation. Stones were thrown at the police officers after they objected it.
According to reports, the police used lathicharge to scatter the “unruly crowd”.
Six police officers and six volunteers, including five women, reportedly suffered minor injuries during the stone pelting, while some police vehicles were damaged.
Three cases were reported to the police regarding the incident. They looked at local CCTV footage and social media videos of the happenings that were widely shared. A number of teams were also deployed to find the culprits and take legal action against them.
