On Friday, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and Governor Anandiben Patel spearheaded the International Yoga Day celebrations at Raj Bhawan.

The event attracted numerous bureaucrats, including Uttar Pradesh Chief Secretary Durga Shankar Mishra, and emphasized the significance of yoga in enhancing personal and community health.

This year’s theme, “Yoga for Self and Society,” underscored yoga’s extensive benefits for individual well-being and collective health.

The celebration aimed to increase grassroots participation and promote yoga practices in rural areas, reflecting a broader initiative to integrate yoga into daily life across diverse communities.

Observed annually on 21 June, the International Day of Yoga acknowledges the myriad benefits of yoga for overall health and well-being.

The United Nations established this observance in 2014 following a proposal by Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his address to the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).

The subsequent UNGA resolution, passed in December 2014, officially declared June 21 as ‘International Yoga Day.’

The United Nations describes yoga as an ancient practice that integrates physical, mental, and spiritual elements, with roots deeply embedded in Indian tradition.

The term ‘yoga’ is derived from the Sanskrit word meaning to join or unite. It symbolizes the integration of body and consciousness.

The event at Raj Bhawan not only celebrated the rich heritage of yoga but also reinforced its relevance in modern society, encouraging widespread participation and the adoption of healthier lifestyles through this ancient practice.
