Two Terrorists Killed In Anti-Terror Operation In J&K’s Dachigam

The Indian Army confirmed on Monday that three terrorists were cornered during Operation Mahadev in the upper reaches of Dachigam National Park in Harwan, Srinagar.

Security forces launched the operation after receiving precise intelligence inputs. Reinforcements were rushed to the densely populated area due to the challenging terrain.

Officials emphasised that the joint efforts of the Army, J&K Police, and other security forces aim to eliminate militants and dismantle Over Ground Workers (OGWs) and other terror sympathisers.

Since 2019, anti-terror operations in Jammu and Kashmir have undergone a strategic shift.

Under the direction of Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, the focus expanded beyond neutralising terrorists to dismantling the entire terror ecosystem. This broader approach now targets armed militants as well as their support networks, aiming to eradicate the infrastructure sustaining terrorism in the Union Territory.

Impact of the Pahalgam Attack

The heightened operations follow the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam, where Pakistan-backed Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terrorists killed 26 people.

The attack sparked nationwide outrage and prompted Prime Minister Narendra Modi to grant the armed forces a free hand to respond.

Using advanced technology and human intelligence, Indian security forces intensified operations to thwart further terror plans and secure the region.

In response to the Pahalgam attack, Indian armed forces carried out targeted strikes on nine terror bases deep inside Pakistan, destroying critical infrastructure used to launch cross-border terrorism.

Pakistan retaliated by attacking military and civilian facilities, damaging homes, religious places, and private property in Jammu’s Poonch district. The escalation led to significant damage to 18 defence bases of the Pakistan armed forces.

Operation Mahadev continues in Dachigam with security forces maintaining strict cordons and conducting area domination to prevent militant escape. The two terrorists killed mark a significant breakthrough, while the search for the third militant is ongoing.

Officials stressed that the operation highlights the relentless pursuit to ensure peace and stability in Jammu and Kashmir through precise, intelligence-driven missions.

The ongoing anti-terror strategy seeks to permanently dismantle the support structure of militancy in the region.

By combining technology, human intelligence, and ground operations, the forces aim to cut off the flow of resources and eliminate safe havens.

The success of Operation Mahadev reinforces the commitment of the Indian security apparatus to safeguard civilians and secure the Union Territory from cross-border terrorism.
