The Indian Army troops successfully intercepted terrorists attempting to infiltrate along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kupwara district on Tuesday. They killed two terrorists during the operation, officials said.
Officials further stated that vigilant Army personnel observed suspicious movement near the LoC.
The officials noted, “An infiltrating group of terrorists was challenged and engaged in a sustained exchange of fire. Two terrorists have been killed in this ongoing operation so far.”
The Army, together with other security forces, monitors the LoC and nearby areas 24/7 to stop infiltration attempts in J&K before winter snowfall blocks mountain passes.
Reports indicate that terrorists have positioned themselves at launch pads in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK). They are planning to cross into Indian territory before the snow blocks the routes.
Officials said that the number of terrorists waiting to infiltrate changes constantly. They estimated it to be around 100.
The Army, police, and security forces are intensifying anti-terror campaigns across Jammu and Kashmir. They aim to dismantle networks of terrorists, OGWs and local aides.
The Army secures the LoC, while the Border Security Force (BSF) monitors the International Border (IB).
Jammu and Kashmir’s LoC spans 740 km, whereas the IB stretches for 240 km. The LoC passes through Baramulla, Kupwara and Bandipora in the Valley, as well as parts of the Jammu district.
At the same time, the IB covers Jammu, Samba, and Kathua districts in the Jammu division.
Terrorists and their coordinators across the LoC and IB in Pakistan deploy drones loaded with arms, explosives, drugs, and money to support insurgency in J&K.
Overground workers and accomplices retrieve these drops and hand them over to active fighters.
The BSF and Army have deployed specialised anti-drone technology along the IB and LoC to counter the growing drone threat effectively.
