TMC MP Mahua Moitra
The Directorate of Estates (DoE) served former TMC Lok Sabha MP Mahua Moitra with a notice on Monday for failing to vacate her government bungalow, according to a source in the Union Housing and Urban Affairs Ministry. The leader of the Trinamool Congress was asked to leave the house by January 7 after her allotment was canceled. She was expelled from the Lok Sabha on December 8 of last year. She now has three days to respond to the notice, according to a request from the DoE.
“A show cause notice has been issued to Mahua Moitra, seeking her reply within three days as to why she has still not vacated her government accommodation,” the source said.
Mahua Moitra got first notice to vacate bungalow
The TMC leader was instructed by the Delhi High Court on January 4 to submit a request to the Department of Education (DoE) to be permitted to stay in the government apartment that was assigned to her.
In addressing the TMC leader’s appeal against an official notice requesting her to leave the government bungalow by January 7 due to the cancellation of her allotment after her expulsion, Justice Subramoniun Prasad pointed out that the regulations allowed the authorities to grant an extension of stay of up to six months in exceptional cases, provided certain fees were paid.

Mahua Moitra’s case
The court acknowledged that Moitra had not made any observations regarding the merits of the case and permitted her to withdraw her petition. It stated that after using its own judgment, the Directorate of Estates would decide her case.
It further stated that the government must act to evict the petitioner in compliance with the law and that the law requires giving notice to a resident prior to eviction. On December 8, 2023, Moitra was found guilty of “unethical conduct” and banished from the Lok Sabha for reportedly accepting gifts from businessman Darshan Hiranandani and giving him access to her user name and password for the Parliament website.
