Three Drug Smugglers Detained For Shooting At Locals
On Monday, two local youngsters were shot at in a village close to the International Border in the Samba region of Jammu and Kashmir by three alleged drug traffickers from Punjab, according to the police.
Subsequently, at the request of the accused—identified as Jagdeep Singh (21) and Satinderpal Singh of Tarn Taran and Sunny Kumar (22) of Amritsar—2.8 kilogrammes of heroin worth crores of rupees was found, they claimed.
According to Samba Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Benam Tosh, the three accused were detained after shooting at two teenagers during a fight between the two sides on the night between Sunday and Monday.
The youths, both from Ramgarh sector, and one of the smugglers were injured in the firing near Rangnoor bus stand, he said.
“The arrest of the three heroin smugglers is a big achievement for police… no terror link has been established so far. It is a matter of investigation whether the smugglers had come to pick up a consignment or deliver one,” the SSP said.
Tosh described the incident in detail, saying that the heroin traffickers from Punjab got into a dispute with a group of eight local youngsters over letting their automobile pass through the border village of Rangoor Camp.
As the debate heated up, Satinderpal pulled out a revolver and fired, injuring two young males, Sunil Kumar (21), Sunil Kumar (23), and his friend Sunny Kumar with bullet wounds, the man claimed.
He claimed that the smugglers, including Sunny, abandoned their car and attempted to flee the scene on a local’s motorbike, but were stopped and detained by police at a nearby checkpoint.
The injured received initial care at a neighbourhood hospital before being sent for specialised care to Government Medical College and Hospital, Jammu, according to the SSP.
The arrested smugglers later led the police to a spot near the scene of the crime from where 2.8 kilograms of heroin worth crores of rupees in the international market, a pistol with a magazine and some rounds, cash worth Rs 93,200 and four costly mobile phones were recovered, he said.
A case has been registered in the matter under sections of the Indian Penal Code, the Arms Act, and the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, Tosh said.
