Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday launched a scathing attack on Arvind Kejriwal’s model of governance in Delhi. Gandhi began a campaign to expose what he called the AAP government’s empty promises of transforming Delhi into a world-class city.
The Congress MP visited Rithala to highlight the stark contrast between the AAP’s claims and the ground realities. He toured areas marked by open drains, broken roads, and piles of garbage, offering a direct critique of the government’s performance. During his visit, Gandhi commented sarcastically, “Dekho, dilli dekho, yeh hai chamkati hui dilli. Paris jaisi dilli… sab jagah yahi haal hai” (See the city, this is Delhi, this is shining Delhi, the Delhi which looks like Paris).
The Congress party echoed Gandhi’s sentiments on social media, emphasizing the poor state of infrastructure in Delhi. In a post on X, the party stated, “Arvind Kejriwal had promised to make Delhi shine like Paris. But, all his claims turned out to be hollow. Today, the people of Delhi are forced to live in clogged sewers, overflowing drains, and immense filth.”
Rahul Gandhi’s campaign aims to expose the AAP government’s failures while drawing attention to the achievements of the Congress-led government under Sheila Dikshit. The party has promised to restore a clean and well-maintained Delhi, pledging to deliver on its commitments if given the opportunity. “Congress party’s promise is – we will return clean and beloved Delhi to the people of Delhi. We did it, we will do it again,” the party wrote in another X post.
Kejriwal Responds To Rahul’s Criticism
With Rahul Gandhi’s active involvement in the campaign, the escalating verbal duel between the AAP and Congress took a fresh turn. The Congress leader plans to hold his first rally in the Seelampuri area on February 13. Gandhi also accused the AAP of ignoring issues like inflation and the welfare of Dalit and minority communities. He criticized Kejriwal’s government for spreading false propaganda and failing to meet the needs of the people.
In a sharp retort, Kejriwal dismissed Gandhi’s remarks. “His fight is to save the Congress party, my fight is to save the country,” the Delhi Chief Minister posted on X, refusing to engage further.
As Delhi’s Assembly elections approach, Gandhi’s direct attacks and Kejriwal’s responses signal an intensifying battle. Both parties appear poised to use Delhi’s infrastructure and governance as key electoral issues.
