The Supreme Court has refused to grant bail to Tamil Nadu Minister Senthil Balaji. The bail was denied on medical grounds. The Supreme Court said that for regular bail he will have to file a petition in the lower court. The Supreme Court told the lower court that the lower court should not be influenced by any of the court’s comments. After this, Senthil Balaji has withdrawn his petition from the Supreme Court. Health condition not serious enough to get bail
While refusing to grant bail on health grounds, the Supreme Court says that Balaji’s condition does not appear to be serious enough to get bail. Apart from this, the Supreme Court said that he could apply for regular bail before the trial court. However, the court has given Balaji the freedom to approach the trial court to get regular bail.
The Supreme Court was hearing an appeal against an order of the Madras High Court. Madras High Court, in its decision given on October 19, had rejected the bail plea of Senthil Balaji. During this, the Madras High Court said that if Senthil Balaji is granted bail, he can influence the witnesses.
Petition withdrawn
During the hearing, the Supreme Court bench said, “Any observation made in the interim order against the petitioner on merits will not come in the way of the petitioner filing a regular bail application.” After this, Senthil Balaji’s lawyer withdrew the petition, and the bail plea was rejected considering the case as withdrawn.
ED made arrests in the case
Tamil Nadu Minister Senthil Balaji was arrested by ED on June 14 this year in a money laundering case related to a cash-for-job scam. He was the Transport Minister in the previous AIADMK government.
