In a significant turn of events, the Supreme Court is scheduled to hear the petition filed by former Director General of Police (DGP) Shalini Agnihotri on March 21. This development comes in the wake of a legal saga surrounding Agnihotri’s tenure and actions in Himachal Pradesh.
Agnihotri, a senior police officer who previously held the position of DGP in Himachal Pradesh, found herself embroiled in legal proceedings after instructions from the Supreme Court prompted her to file a recall application in the Himachal Pradesh High Court. The recall application sought to withdraw a prior order issued by the High Court.
However, the High Court dealt a blow to Agnihotri’s efforts by rejecting her recall application. Instead, the court took a decisive step by ordering the formation of a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to delve into the entirety of the matter. Notably, the High Court specified that an officer of Inspector General (IG) rank should lead the investigation.
The decision to establish an SIT underscores the gravity of the situation and the court’s commitment to an impartial and thorough investigation.
