Actor Mohanlal, who holds the rank of Lieutenant Colonel in the 122 Territorial Army and is affiliated with the Kannur unit, visited the devastated areas of Wayanad on Saturday to commend the ongoing rescue operations. His visit comes as the region grapples with the aftermath of a catastrophic landslide.
Speaking at Churalmala, Mohanlal expressed deep concern over the scale of the tragedy, stating, “This will go down as the country’s worst tragedy. Witnessing the destruction first-hand underscores the profound loss of homes and loved ones in an instant.”

The renowned actor, who has been associated with the 122 Infantry TA Madras Battalion for 16 years, emphasized the collective effort of the rescue teams. “We should appreciate all the rescue teams, from the Defence forces to the young volunteers who have played their part,” he said.
Mohanlal’s unit, comprising 40 members, was among the first to respond to the disaster. “I came here to personally thank the rescue team. This Bailey Bridge itself is a remarkable achievement,” he noted.
In addition to his visit, Mohanlal announced that his Foundation will contribute Rs 3 crore towards the ongoing rehabilitation efforts.
Dressed in military uniform, Mohanlal initially visited the base camp in Meppadi, where he met with Defence personnel before traveling to Churalmala and other severely affected areas.
As of now, the landslide disaster in Wayanad has claimed 344 lives, with 206 individuals still missing as rescue operations enter their fifth day.
