Smriti Irani degree controversy
Today, the Delhi High Court postponed the hearing on the petition in the degree dispute with Union Minister Smriti Irani. The petition was filed by a person named Ahmar Khan, in which Smriti was accused of giving false and misleading information about her educational qualifications in three affidavits filed before the Election Commission in the years 2004, 2011, and 2014. Now the High Court has given the date for hearing next year.
On March 24, 2024, the Delhi High Court will hear the case
The Delhi High Court will next hear the petition of petitioner Ahmar Khan on March 24, 2024. It is being told that today’s hearing was postponed due to the non-availability of the lawyer. Freelance writer Ahmar Khan had filed a revision petition challenging the lower court’s decision to dismiss his complaint. Khan alleged in the complaint that the Union Minister had given wrong information about his educational qualifications in three affidavits filed before the Election Commission while filing nominations for the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha elections.
The dispute over educational qualifications has been going on for many years
It is noteworthy that Smriti Irani’s opponents have been raising questions about her education, especially her degree, for many years. Whether Smriti has completed a B.Com. in her first year or has taken a degree from Yale, this has been a mystery for a long time. In many of her statements given to the media, Smriti Irani has declared herself clean. However, Ahmer Khan, who complained against her, alleges that Smriti Irani gave wrong information in the affidavits given to the Election Commission while filing her nomination for the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha elections. In 2004, he filed an affidavit to contest the Lok Sabha elections from Chandni Chowk, Delhi.

The trial court had rejected Ahmar’s petition
Ahmer Khan’s petition was to be heard in the Delhi High Court today, i.e., on October 19, but now the High Court has given the date for the hearing next year. Earlier, the trial court had rejected Ahmer Khan’s petition. When the petition was rejected in the trial court, Khan filed a review petition in the High Court challenging its decision. In the last hearing, the bench of Justice Swarn Kanta Sharma issued notice to both parties and sought answers.
