Seventeen surrendered Maoists from Chhattisgarh’s Bijapur and Sukma districts gave up arms in Telangana’s Bhadradri Kothagudem district on Friday.
They surrendered before Superintendent of Police Rohit Raju and CRPF officials at the district police headquarters.
The group included two Area Committee members, four party members, and 11 militia cadres.
According to police, they chose to abandon violence and embrace a peaceful life with their families.
The decision followed awareness of welfare efforts under Operation Cheyutha, a police-led initiative focused on tribal welfare and reintegration.
The SP revealed that 282 Maoists have surrendered in the district this year. He credited the success to developmental schemes and awareness drives.
He urged residents in border villages to avoid helping Maoists.
“If you notice any Maoist activity, inform the nearest police station or senior officials immediately,” he said.
The official added that Mulugu police recently arrested 20 Maoists and seized 12 weapons after tip-offs from locals.
The Bhadradri Kothagudem police, with the Telangana government, are offering suitable rewards to surrendered Maoists who voluntarily join mainstream life.
Telangana Police are working with Chhattisgarh authorities to address long-term rehabilitation needs.
SP Raju warned that any Maoist entering Telangana will be tracked and arrested.
“There is no shelter here for extremists. People are aware and no longer support outdated ideologies,” he said.
He referred to encounters like Karreguttalu, where 31 Maoists were killed recently.
The police will ensure full support for those choosing peace, including benefits for livelihood and reintegration.
