Adani Ports Gets ₹5,000 Crore Via 15-Year NCD Subscribed By LIC

Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone Ltd (APSEZ) on Friday raised ₹5,000 crore through a 15-year Non-Convertible Debenture (NCD) issue. LIC fully subscribed to the issue.

The NCD carries a fixed coupon rate of 7.75% per annum. APSEZ backed the issue with its strong financials and a ‘AAA/Stable’ domestic credit rating. The debentures will list on the BSE.

Capital Plan To Boost Long-Term Growth

Ashwani Gupta, Whole-time Director and CEO of APSEZ, said the fundraising goes beyond financing.

“This is a proactive step under APSEZ’s Capital Management Plan. We aim to maintain conservative leverage, extend debt maturity, cut costs, and diversify funding,” he stated.

The company is working towards becoming the world’s largest integrated transport utility. It targets 1 billion tonnes of cargo handling by FY30. This target is more than twice its expected FY25 figure.

Besides ports, APSEZ plans major expansion in logistics and marine services. The company is aligning its finances to support this broader vision.

Milestone Transaction In Indian Markets

This issuance marks APSEZ’s longest debt tenure to date. It is also among the longest ever in India’s capital markets.

The company will use the proceeds to fund a proposed buyback of its US Dollar bonds. The board will consider this proposal on 31 May 2025.

The full subscription will push the company’s average debt maturity from 4.8 years to 6.2 years. This extension improves access to patient capital and enhances liquidity.

APSEZ is steadily improving its repayment profile and cost of capital. These changes support long-term planning and large-scale projects.

The company also gains more flexibility for acquisitions. It can now reallocate funds towards innovation, technology upgrades, and operational efficiency.

Adani Ports operates 15 ports and terminals in India. It controls seven ports on the west coast and eight on the east. These facilities handle 27% of the country’s total port traffic.
