The MP Sports Festival – 2025 began with grandeur and enthusiasm in Sarojini Nagar, inspired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision to promote sports across India.
The event was combined with the ongoing Sarojini Nagar Sports League, which MLA Dr Rajeshwar Singh has successfully led for the past three years.
Under the guidance of Rajya Sabha MP and former Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Dr Dinesh Sharma, and the leadership of Dr Singh, the Football Championship- 2025 kicked off at CMS Jai Jagat Ground, Kanpur Road, on Monday.
The opening ceremony was full of excitement, patriotic spirit, and youthful energy.
Students from several schools performed patriotic songs, cultural dances and band routines.
The event began with a soulful Saraswati Vandana, followed by an impressive march-past by NSS cadets, which captivated the audience.
Football Tournament Opens with Thrilling Matches
The championship began with two exciting matches that set the tone for the event.
In the first inter-school match, Chiranjeevi Bharati School defeated Awadh Collegiate by 1-0 after a competitive contest.
The second match, held in the inter-club category, saw Telibagh Youth Club edge past Amausi Junior FC 1-0 in a thrilling encounter.
Both matches displayed sportsmanship, skill, and determination among young players.
The championship marks the eighth edition of the Sarojini Nagar Sports League, a consistent effort to motivate and empower local youth through sports.
The event features inter-school and inter-club tournaments in football, cricket, and basketball.
Twenty inter-school teams and twenty-one inter-club teams are competing for top honours.
The winner will receive ₹50,000, while the runner-up will get ₹25,000.
Addressing the gathering, MLA Dr Rajeshwar Singh encouraged young athletes to play with passion and unity.
He said, “Sports break caste barriers, unite the nation, and strengthen patriotism. When our youth play, they stay healthy, and a healthy youth builds a stronger India.”
Dr Singh praised Dr Dinesh Sharma’s contribution to Lucknow, saying, “As Mayor, he transformed Lucknow into a smart city. As Deputy Chief Minister and Education Minister, he improved the education system and advanced digital literacy. His guidance has made the MP Sports Festival in Sarojini Nagar a success.”
Dr Dinesh Sharma praised the players and emphasised the importance of sports in society.
“Sports promote harmony, cooperation, and peace,” he said.
He further added, “Under Prime Minister Modi’s leadership, rural talents are now shining at national and international levels.”
Dr Dinesh Sharma lauded Dr Singh’s commitment to public service, calling him an inspiring and energetic leader.
Several dignitaries attended the event, including MLC Ramchandra Singh, former Minister Virendra Tiwari, District Cooperative Bank Chairman Virendra Singh, SKD Group Director Manish Singh, Councillor Saurabh Singh Monu, Kaushalendra Dwivedi, Sanjeev Awasthi and senior BJP leaders and local representatives.
The Sarojini Nagar Sports League continues to strengthen community ties and inspire young athletes to dream big through the power of sports.
